A delicacy in many tropical countries and a firm favourite of vegetarians, vegans and the health-conscious, jackfruit is one of the largest tree-borne fruits in the world. When ripened, it is sweet and eaten as a fruit, and when young and green (as with this tin), it has a mostly neutral flavour and meat-like texture, meaning it absorbs the flavours of the herbs, spices and sauces it is cooked with.
